Our students are bright and creative young men and women.

This can be a double-edged sword — intelligence and creativity are often the common denominators in most manipulative students.

Depressed, and angry, they act out oppositional behavior and are most likely engaged in active addictions. Ages 10–20, our students come here with disparate academic histories and commonly no motivation to achieve. They struggle with low self-esteem and avoid anything like honest relationships with others.

Because these students often arrive with such negative attributes, we immerse them in a community that encourages honest expression of feelings; a community that teaches the student to be open-minded and accountable for his or her own actions.

As each student's relationship skills improve, the need to act out diminishes. Through our process, each individual finds a healthy balance of self-concept, realized potential and personal success. When one stumbles, the community is there to support the growth from that experience.

At Sarasota Community School, our staff has witnessed many seemingly hopeless situations improve dramatically each year.

At Sarasota Community School, each student progresses at his or her own pace, both emotionally and academically. We do not divide the educational experience into arbitrary periods of time, but by critical segments of development for lasting personal and academic growth.

Our staff believes that no member of a family is an island unto himself or herself, and to achieve lasting change, a student’s entire family must be involved. By the time your child graduates, your family will have learned new and better ways to support one another.
