If your child senses that you are
not willing to change and that you are not committed to this
process, how committed will he or she be?
Emotional work. It is important and critical that you do this
work too. For your child to heal, your family must heal. We believe
that, in order for adolescents to mature into healthy, successful
young adults, they must learn to identify and understand their own
needs and then initiate and maintain healthy relationships with
their family and peers without the comfort or distraction of
substances or inappropriate behaviors.
All parents, step parents, and significant others are required to
participate in one of our regional groups located throughout the US.
These groups provide a supportive environment for parents to develop
self-awareness, identify and confront dysfunctional behavior, and
plan strategies for change within the family system. Participation
in these monthly group meetings is mandatory. We reserve the right
to terminate a family when the parents are unwilling to participate;
however, we will never give up on your child.
Family therapy is offered in the form of parent-child workshops
held throughout the year in a variety of locations. These workshops
do much to improve communication among family members. These
sessions are designed to heal and contribute to the overall
functionality of the family by providing a safe environment to
explore and process their issues. |

Visiting Sundays are held once each month from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Before the first visit, parent must attend a New Parent
Orientation.
In addition, parents and students may be eligible for at-home
visits, pending approval of both student dorm mates and parent group
members. We encourage parents to complete a Three Day visit, during
which they live on campus, follow the same schedule as the students
and faculty, and experience the Sarasota
Community School life.
Family participation also has Open House Weekend in October,
Winterfest in February, and Graduation in June. |
